TUCSON, Ariz., Nov. 22, 2006 — Award-winning singer Billy Gilman is on board for a fifth term as the 2007 National Youth Chairman for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Gilman, 18, was first appointed to the voluntary MDA position in 2003 and has since traveled the nation educating thousands of teenagers and young adults about the fight against neuromuscular disease.

As MDA National Youth Chairman, Gilman also appears and performs at gatherings of MDA national sponsors, such as this year’s ERA Real Estate’s International Business Conference and the International Career Development Conference of DECA (an association of marketing students). He also supports the Association through media interviews and appearances at MDA fund-raising events.

During 2006, Gilman teamed up with MDA National Goodwill Ambassador Luke Christie, 13, in public appearances in San Francisco and Las Vegas. Among the cities on Gilman’s schedule for next year are Orlando, Milwaukee and Las Vegas, where he will once again appear with Luke.

“I’m excited that MDA has asked me to come back for a fifth term,” Gilman said. “I’ve met so many great people who are helping MDA beat muscular dystrophy, and I want to continue delivering MDA’s message wherever I can.”

In September, Gilman released “Billy Gilman,” his self-titled sixth CD, after debuting several of the songs on the MDA Jerry Lewis Telethon on Labor Day weekend. A single from the album, “Southern Star,” can be heard on country music radio stations across the nation.

In addition to performing, Gilman also hosts segments of the Telethon’s national broadcast.

Gilman’s fourth album, “Music Through Heartsongs,” features poems by the late MDA National Goodwill Ambassador and best-selling poet, Mattie J.T. Stepanek, set to music.

“It’s such a pleasure to have Billy as MDA’s National Youth Chairman for another year,” said MDA National Chairman Jerry Lewis. “He’s got great passion for our cause, and I can’t wait to see what he can accomplish this year.”

MDA is a national voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.

The Association’s programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors.
